WiFi LoRa 32 (V3), ESP32S3 + SX1262 LoRa Node

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased the WiFi LoRa 32 (V3), ESP32S3 + SX1262 LoRa Node for LoRaWAN communication with a gateway.

  • In unurbanized areas I can reach about 2 km .
  • In urban environments I only get ~800 m , and sometimes below 500 m .

Use case:

  • Gateway is on the ground floor inside an office .
  • End node is in the basement , collecting gas & temperature data.
  • Near the staircase in the basement, data sometimes sends successfully.
  • In the basement room where the end node is installed, it cannot join the LoRaWAN network using OTAA .

I am using the antenna provided with the device .

Questions:

  1. Is this performance expected in such a setup, or could something be wrong with my configuration?
  2. Could the issue be related to the provided antenna?
  3. Do you recommend different antennas or placements for better penetration in indoor/basement environments?

Any guidance or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
