Trying to get device connected to TTN V3

I have followed the instructions here https://heltec-automation-docs.readthedocs.io/en/latest/esp32/lorawan/connect_to_gateway.html to get device data from a ESP32 LoRa 32 (V2) device to TTN V3, but I think the information was written for TTN V2.

I am seeing a join request coming through my LPS8 Gateway device to TTN:

but there is no successful join of the device.

That is old version certainly, but new version operate similar.
