Good morning Heltec Support Team,
I am building a solar node using a 12V AGM battery, a solar charge regulator, and a step-down converter. The converter is a Pololu D24V10F5. Following the manufacturer’s recommendations to suppress dangerous LC voltage spikes, I placed a 47µF electrolytic capacitor across the buck converter’s VIN and GND. Additionally, I added two capacitors at VOUT (one electrolytic and one ceramic) to filter out both low and high-frequency noise. The Heltec T096 device is powered directly through the 5V and GND pins. The issue is that during boot, the screen flashes continuously. Interestingly, this problem does not occur when the device is powered normally via the USB port.
Since I cannot attach a direct video of my setup here, I am sharing a YouTube link that shows the exact same behavior: https://youtu.be/kWttmIglX4Y?si=4cpUx6yExp-0rqUd. In that video, the author experiences the identical flashing issue when powering the Heltec with just a battery. The difference is that my device after 15 seconds turns off the screen (power saving option) and I can login to it and doing all normal repeater tasks and operations.
I would highly appreciate any recommendations, tips, or insights you might have. I am concerned that this power instability might damage the flash memory or cause the device to get stuck in an endless boot loop.Thank you for your time and assistance.
Best regards,
Alex
