Please offer members to remove their account!

According to: https://gdpr-info.eu/art-7-gdpr/

1.The data subject shall have the right to withdraw his or her consent at any time.
2 The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
3. Prior to giving consent, the data subject shall be informed thereof.
4. It shall be as easy to withdraw as to give consent.

Thus… please offer your members a way so they can delete their account and next time let people themselves choose if they would like to signup or not instead of signing them up yourself so they only have to click a link to acknowledge the signup they never asked for. In the EU this sort of behavior is even forbidden A notification about this behavior will also be sent towards several DPA’s in the EU so they be aware about this.

You may want to explain to Heltec how this applies to a website owned & operated by a Chinese company using servers based in the US.

Additionally, if you were automagically signed up, it may have been whilst interacting with Heltec staff. Is this likely? If so, this may be classed as fair use.

But for sure, having a delete is considered appropriate - albeit having to anonymise any posts so that the thread context is not lost.

Ironically, this is your first & only post, so that means there wasn’t anything in public to anonymise. If you were on a Heltec mailing list, then you could unsubscribe to that, but I’m not aware of any mailing list they run.

I placed an order on September 24th and sent an email that same day. I received a reply via email on September 25th. And on September 29th, I suddenly received a reminder to register for this community, which I never signed up for.

For support questions, I simply send an email to avoid being registered on all sorts of forums. I have no interest in forums, and I don’t want to be involved with them, especially not with forums that don’t offer the option to delete an account (even if I haven’t signed up).

There are numerous support options: Discord, Telegram, email, etc.

It seems that when I created my account at heltec.cn to place the order, I also created an account on the forum. And perhaps the confirmation link was accidentally clicked, with all the consequences that entailed.

It was indeed my first post because I simply don’t want to have anything to do with (or on) a forum, but since they refuse to offer an option to delete an account, I unfortunately had to post about it.

Some sort of ironic chicken & egg going on here.

If you’d not posted, the account would never be surfaced, lying dormant as only you would have the password and no one would be able to find it.

Rather than digging the hole deeper, perhaps stick to emailing the Heltec office on this matter as I doubt anyone will realise what this thread is about - it’s mostly volunteers answering on here.

And remember, you’re asking for a favour here, there’s no EU jurisdiction over this forum.
