Heltec M02 v2 - Unable to connect to the main configuration page after changing the "net settings" configuration and rebooting

I could to the gateway via the wifi on IP address factory default 192.168.4.1. I switched the “net settings” from wifi client to eth-wan. The system prompted for a reboot and rebooted. The device is now seemingly non-responsive. The device no longer broadcasts its SSID and therefore, I cannot connect to the main configuration page via wifi.

As a basic troublshooting step, I cannot find the MAC on the router that the gateway is currently plugged into which implies that DHCP is no longer working.

I have tried to connect to the main configuration page via the ethernet port directly connected to my laptop using a 192.168.4.200 address. There is no response on 192.168.4.1 when I use my laptop.

I have not changed any other network configuration on this device (except the things network configuration below).

https://docs.heltec.org/en/gateway/ht-m02_v2/quick_start.html#eth-wifi-version

Which IP address is the ethernet port configured with when in this network configuration?

Which IP address should I use to connect to the gateway?

How would I use the serial port to change the net settings back to the wifi client configuration?

Hi, have you managed to solve this issue? I just bought the M02 V2 and i have the fear of that happening, currently can’t connect to TTN and Chirpstack too.

Yes. The device can be configured to be an access point or an access point client. By default it comes configured as an access point. The problem was I chose to make it an access point client without giving it credentials to my access point. Whoops! There should be a fail safe for that by the way. Second problem was used a bad ethernet to usb dongle so I wasn’t getting a good physical connection to my laptop. Anyways, here was the solution.
Step 1. I simply plugged the ethernet port into my laptop directly and saw there was blinky lights/power on the port. Doh!
Step 2. Got my laptop on the 192.168.4 network. Configured my laptop IP address to 192.168.4.<choose a number between 2 and 254> (e.g. I chose 192.168.4.2). Subnet mask is /24 so 255.255.255.0 mask will work. Gateway and DNS are 192.168.4.1. Then you are on the same network as the AP. Disconnected my laptop from wifi so there were no other routes on my laptop.
Step 3. I then navigated to http://192.168.4.1, got a response from the heltec, entered the well documented password and login. Back to the home screen and reconfigured net settings back.

Hope that helps! Unfortunately, I bricked my Heltec again. See below. If you have suggestions let me know. Power off command on Heltec MT-M02 v2

Great! thanks for the guide! I will try it, hopefully i don’t brick my M02 or i can say goodbye to my grades. Does yours have the 4G option? The docs doesn’t seem to have much info on the 4G sim
Edit: i forgot to ask, did you change according to the documentations to WiFi + ETH Client mode before using ETH?

no. that was the problem. I couldn’t get to the net configuration setting. I am using the 4G option but haven’t experimented with that yet.
