Have been testing the HD01 V2 for the last few days purely as a client with the HT-H7608 as the gateway/router. The H7608 is absolutely rock solid and hasn’t missed a beat, but sadly, the HD-01 I have received is a total nightmare. At this stage, I’m thinking I may have received a faulty unit or possibly the issues are firmware related, but I find it hard to believe a FW this bad could be released. Both devices use the same board.
Issues after 3 days of testing with the HD-01, about 1 meter away from the H7608 gateway: HD-01 is in Client/extender mode.
- Cannot maintain a HALO link for more than 8-12 hours (not power-related, both devices are hard-wired, powered/no batteries/solar.
- Rebooting the device does not bring the link back up again; only resetting and reconfiguring does, then it rinse/repeats eventually.
- Periodically, a reboot will bring the device back to constant red light status and can only be recovered with a reset/reconfigure.
- HALO interface scans from time to time will not see the gateway’s HALO radio; need to reset and re-configure again.
- The HALO radio, when restarted from the interfaces tab, sometimes will not restart at all and stays inactive. Reboot doesn’t solve, only reset/reconfigure again.
- Even after resetting during the setup wizard at the scan stage for HALO radio setup, it sometimes fails to see the H7608 gateway.
- Restarting the HALO interface sometimes fails. When this happens, the web interface is still reachable via the 2.4GHz radio. When this occurs, the device’s status light is completely off, but the device is still operational (but not the HALO radio). The only way to recover is to reset.
Gateway FW is: OpenWrt 23.05.5 2.8.5-20251023
HD-01 FW is: OpenWRT 23.05.5 2.8.5-20250924
I have not tried re-flashing yet; that will be my next step.
Are there Heltec agents in this forum that can assist, or should I be requesting a return via support@?
Does anyone else have similar issues with this device?
