We are a commercial sensor company and I am getting ready for the next phase of development with the ESP32 CPU modules. I need to make some important decisions in the near future as to what module I design my new product around. I did my “proof of concept” with an ESP32-DEVKITM-1 which is based on an Espressif ESP32-MINI-1. It allowed me to show wifi & bluetooth connectivity, that our product previously did not have.
I also did some development with the Heltec WiFi Kit 32(V3) & Heltec LoRa 32(V3). I moved away from these two devices because the libraries seemed to have needed additional ringing out, before they are ready for a commercial product. I’m hoping the libraries and community support has improved over the last several months. I would like to see a long range RF capability in our product line, but that doesn’t have to be a standard.
My question is, and Heltec is free to respond, but what are your thoughts on module selection and is Heltec stable enough for me to hitch my production wagon to their modules? I don’t want to have to redesign every two years due to a lack of available modules.
