Can`t connect gateway to TTN

Hello, I’m having trouble connecting my Heltec MT M7603 gateway to TTN. I followed the step-by-step guide provided in the documentation, but at the end of the process, my gateway shows up as disconnected . Here are a few questions I have:

  1. When I purchased the device, I requested the AU915 version, but the gateway itself is labeled US915. Could this be a limitation or issue?
  2. When registering the gateway on TTN, is the requested Gateway EUI the same as the Gateway ID shown on the configuration page? Also, the Gateway ID field on TTN is not filled in automatically, contrary to what the documentation suggests.

Probably. For legacy reasons it has become super important for all gateway vendors to use Gateway Id when they really mean EUI. As soon as there is an uprising of customers, things will change …


However before you get some milk bottles, petrol & rags, you should consider this from the docs:

  • Gateway EUI – The unique ID of HT-M7603 gateway, view from configuration page.

LoRaWAN is like Shrek & onions, many many layers. You have to see the big picture and go with the flow. I find a robust Shiraz helps.

So, yeah, use the Gateway ID on the Status page as the EUI on the TTN console.

Which documentation? TTS or Heltec?

TTS was changed so that it no longer fills in the Id automagically because people were getting messed up with the difference. The id should be something useful to help you identify the gateway - not important if you only have on the one, gets a bit essential when you’ve a dozen or more.

Most excellent but redundant picture of the Disconnected flag.

Even with a fully connected gateway, it will tend to show disconnected unless you have an active device as well. And it’s not real time, the status is updated in the background on an non-deterministic schedule. The console activity is the real source of truth.

Cool, thank you for the reply. One more question, is there a way to confirm if the gateway is correctely connected without the necessity of adding and end device?

You should see the heartbeat messages on the TTN web console about every 30 seconds for a reasonably well configured gateway.

Not entirely sure what this means to you in terms of having actual devices, the point of owning a gateway, or where they get added.

But long story short, having a device does make things super easy for checking connectivity.
